Assignment for Term 2 Week 5

Dear 5B,

this week's assignment is meant to  for you to evaluate and reflect on our student sharing session we had yesterday.

Firstly,
give yourselves a pat on the back for going through with the task - I'm so proud of you for being both an active learner and a teacher. I learnt so much from you guys!

Next,
the purpose of the sharing session was to get you exposed to

- culture of sharing and learning from one another

- the fact that there can be SO many ideas for just one theme, so don't always take the well-worn path/easy way out (e.g. accident doesn't always have to mean must be a car knocking down a student on the way to school!)

- ideas are just ideas till you add logical details (Who? What? Where? HOW did the character get from one scene to another???) and motivation (WHY???? - i.e. backstory) to the plot.
After all, no one wants to read about Percy Jackson's normal day out in school or about how he killed monsters just because his friend asked him to. We all want to support our character through his growth as a person (remember Underdogs to Champions plot device!!)

I hope you did get an idea of the lesson's objectives.

SO tasks for the week...

Task #1 : Post a comment on this post - write your reflections on this experience of becoming a student teacher as well as a student learner. Be as honest as possible and think through.

Task #2 : You have come up with a wonderful orientation for the "Challenge" theme. Now, using what you have learnt, come up with a bubble diagram to guide you from the intro to the complication.
Post that in the comment box for the blog post titled "Your Bubble Plans" (NOT THE ONE YOU ARE READING NOW!).
How do you do that?

E.g.
Name: Ms Priya
Theme: Accident

Sam -> Running errands for Mother -> Decided to drive since he had just gotten his license-> Was waiting at a traffic light -> His best friend called -> Got distracted-> ended up driving onto a kerb-> knocked down a traffic sign -> escaped unhurt but car hood smashed -> Coda:  While he was thankful he was safe, his confidence was shaken and it will be a long time before he would drive again.

Easy enough?

Task #3: Once you've posted your plan, read the plans of others and choose ONE to critique (if you do not know the meaning of this word, go look it up!). If you think there is a logic loophole, ask the person! This is to help the person improve their thought process and for you to train your mind to look for logic loopholes to fill.

Let's see where this takes us!

Have a great weekend!

Love,
Ms Priya

Cells!

Hi everyone, Want to see what different cells look like? I know we saw some under the microscope in the Science Lab but there are so many more cells out there. Click on each picture to find out more about the cell. Do write in the comments section if you have any questions about cells and let's try to answer each others' questions. http://www.atom.rmutphysics.com/charud/oldnews/0/286/15/5/science-museum/cell/mc4.swf Another website on cells: http://www.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/eng/education/biology/gallery/

2.Visual Text Comprehension (using the strategies taught)

3. Skim through your LRDs and Straits Times issues and cut out articles that relate to the themes of fear, challenge, conflict and other popular themes such as burglary, fire, crimes and so on.
