Assignment for Term 2 Week 5

Dear 5B,

this week's assignment is meant to  for you to evaluate and reflect on our student sharing session we had yesterday.

Firstly,
give yourselves a pat on the back for going through with the task - I'm so proud of you for being both an active learner and a teacher. I learnt so much from you guys!

Next,
the purpose of the sharing session was to get you exposed to

- culture of sharing and learning from one another

- the fact that there can be SO many ideas for just one theme, so don't always take the well-worn path/easy way out (e.g. accident doesn't always have to mean must be a car knocking down a student on the way to school!)

- ideas are just ideas till you add logical details (Who? What? Where? HOW did the character get from one scene to another???) and motivation (WHY???? - i.e. backstory) to the plot.
After all, no one wants to read about Percy Jackson's normal day out in school or about how he killed monsters just because his friend asked him to. We all want to support our character through his growth as a person (remember Underdogs to Champions plot device!!)

I hope you did get an idea of the lesson's objectives.

SO tasks for the week...

Task #1 : Post a comment on this post - write your reflections on this experience of becoming a student teacher as well as a student learner. Be as honest as possible and think through.

Task #2 : You have come up with a wonderful orientation for the "Challenge" theme. Now, using what you have learnt, come up with a bubble diagram to guide you from the intro to the complication.
Post that in the comment box for the blog post titled "Your Bubble Plans" (NOT THE ONE YOU ARE READING NOW!).
How do you do that?

E.g.
Name: Ms Priya
Theme: Accident

Sam -> Running errands for Mother -> Decided to drive since he had just gotten his license-> Was waiting at a traffic light -> His best friend called -> Got distracted-> ended up driving onto a kerb-> knocked down a traffic sign -> escaped unhurt but car hood smashed -> Coda:  While he was thankful he was safe, his confidence was shaken and it will be a long time before he would drive again.

Easy enough?

Task #3: Once you've posted your plan, read the plans of others and choose ONE to critique (if you do not know the meaning of this word, go look it up!). If you think there is a logic loophole, ask the person! This is to help the person improve their thought process and for you to train your mind to look for logic loopholes to fill.

Let's see where this takes us!

Have a great weekend!

Love,
Ms Priya

  2. I feel that the activity that we did yesterday was fun and I also get the feel as a teacher .I also think that what many groups had done was very good but some of them were not that prepared like how you are everyday when you come in the class and start the lesson as fast as you can . I also learnt that we must think very fast and not set a bad example to the students and not taking your own sweet time as it will cause a shortage of time to complete certain stuff .

  3. I feel that the activity we did was educational and fun as we could practice our writing skills and learnt to speak in front of an audience and it was good that most of us learnt a lot of things.I feel that being a teacher is difficult as to me it is very scary to speak in front of 40 people.I also feel that as students, we should appreciate the teacher’s effort by paying attention during class

  5. I feel that being a " teacher " is not easy as many students would ask a lot of questions, making me fed up and we need to be prepared or the students would be restless

I feel that the activity made me a better person as I have now knew that it is not that easy to be a teacher. I also overcame my fear of being in front of a class with 40 people. I got some writing tips also.

  8. I think that being a "teacher" is not easy. You have to speak to 40 pupils in the class and make sure everyone can hear you. Questions will be asked and you have to try to answer them. you need to be patient to those that ask persistent questions.

  9. I feel that after this experience, I learnt that when we do our oral, we must prepare before we start if not we will leave an awkward pause between the candidate and the examiner. I think being a teacher is a hard job as they will need to prepare and plan the lesson before the next day's lessons start. During oral, we must maintain our confidence in our words and have confidence to get an A or A*.

  11. The activity was very fun, and based on what ms Priya learnt, I realised I had to be patient with questions. It was a rare time for us to present our ideas. And there were also lots of oral stuff for us to improve on. It was really boring at first, then it was starting to get fun. I also learnt that you really, really need to prepare yourself

  13. The activity that we had done on Friday had let me realise that being a teacher isn't easy. It takes up courage and also confidence to conduct a lesson. I also saw quite a lot of creative ideas in all our narrative plan. I would encourage more of these sharing sessions so that we can know about others' ideas and also we ca n learn something new from them.

  14. I feel that being a teacher is not that easy as we must have the courage to stand there and talk. We also need confidence to talk and conduct a lesson. From other groups narrative plan, I had also learnt something from them. I would also like more sharing sessions as it will help build our confidence for talking and it also helps for our oral.

  20. I feel that this is a good learning experience as in each of our groups,we learnt that a teacher's job is a tough one, especially when looking at 38 or more students and fearing that you will mess up .I have also learnt a few good oral tips, which I hope can be used to get more marks in the exam.

  24. I feel that being a teacher is very stressed to see everyone stare at you. We should respect and listen to the teacher at all times. We should not make the teacher angry.

  26. Ms Priya,
my reflections on this actiity is:
as a student, we should not be so impatient. The teachers need time to warm up if they are new.
As student teachers,I feel that being a teacher is very difficult!!! The students asked a lot of quetions and we sometimes did not hae a satisfiying answer for them as we need to think through. We had to rush our presentation as we were the last and we tried our best! Thank you, Ms Prya, for creating this chance to expirence of being a teacher! I finally know what it feels like to be a teacher.
